Look at the Canucks goal totals. Are they counting down?

CANUCKS NEWS: Sometimes this Canucks team can show you how a game is going to go in the first minute. Last night?

One of the guys who is taking some early heat is Sven Baertschi. He was bumped off that top line to try and shake things up, moving Brendan Leipsic onto the top line with Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser. Sven responded with a breakaway beauty set up by Alexander Edler and Chris Tanev.

Holy crap that Edler pass. Beautiful. Anyway, I don’t wanna dwell too much on breaking down the game, especially when Beggsy has a much better breakdown here. But holy hell this team’s defence and goaltending are just so bloody awful... Here’s your morning reading list:

JPat’s Three Takeaways on last night’s contest... Botch talks parallel universes in last night’s Athletties (paywall, but it’s worth the money IMO)... Bo Horvat with a shocking revelation... And you may as well get used to articles like this because they’re not gonna stop, even if he does score (they’ll just say he’s not scoring enough)...

AROUND THE LEAGUE: After sputtering in their first couple games the Leafs seem to be settling in nicely, led by (quelle suprise!) Auston Matthews and John Tavares. Both scored twice in a 7-4 win in Dallas last night. Matthews now has 7 on the season and it’s looking a lot like predictions he’d win the scoring race are pretty bang on... Evander Kane and Joe Pavelski each had a pair in an 8-2 San Jose Sharks stomping of the Philadelphia Flyers, who despite the loss came out of the evening with the W

2 G 1 A from Nick Foligno led Columbus to a 5-2 win over Colorado... LOLing at Nashville not being able to score on Mike Smith... A Kyle Connor PPG in the 3rd was the difference as Winnipeg won their home opener against the Kings. Ilya Kovalchuk scored for Los Angeles.

The Canucks are in Tampa and directly in the path of Hurricane Michael. This is a pretty scary storm, they’re saying it will be the worst to hit the area in a century. Here’s hoping they all stay safe, and that the people in the area are able to survive this latest storm. There will no doubt be relief efforts following this, so if you can, give to help those who need it. And to our pals over at Raw Charge, we’re thinking of you.
