The Canucks reduce their preseason roster by sending 7 more to Utica

Most, if not all of these names are ones we expected to see as the Canucks sent another seven players home from the main camp as they held their first practice yesterday in Utica. Reid Boucher, Guillaume Brisebois, Jalen Chatfield, Jonathan Dahlen, Thacher Demko, Joseph LaBate, and Michael Garteig will all be there, with Garteig looking to build on a positive season last year in Alaska with the ECHL Aces.

Chatfield was impressive, especially at the Young Stars tournament in Penticton, and it’s hoped that he can continue the strides that he’s made thus far. As for Dahlen, they will be looking to ease the 19 year old Swede, who was acquired in the deal with Ottawa for Alexandre Burrows, into the complexities of the North American game. Dahlen was unable to play in the annual prospects tournament thanks to a bout of Mono

The preseason is a short one for the Comets, with just two games this weekend against the Rochester Americans. For now it’s going to be up to Trent Cull and his coaching staff to see who they have and what kind of a lineup they can trot out before opening the season in Toronto against the Marlies.

One Comets mainstay who is still up with the big squad is Darren Archibald. He’s been good in a fourth line role for the Canucks, earning himself a longer look from new head coach Travis Green, who knows full well what his leading scorer from last season is capable of. Archibald and Jake Virtanen are both battling for spots, and one if not both of them could be Utica-bound by the weekend. The Canucks play the Calgary Flames tonight, and both players are in the lineup.

The full training camp roster (before yesterday’s additions) looks like this:

The following players have been assigned by the Vancouver Canucks:

  • LW Reid Boucher; LW Jonathan Dahlen; RW Michael Carcone; LW Yan-Pavel Laplante; D Evan McEneny ; C Zack McEwen; LW Griffen Molino; D Ashton Sautner; D Jordan Subban; D Anton Cederholm; D Mackenze Stewart.

The following players are attending on an AHL contract:

  • RW Carter Bancks, C Wacey Hamilton, D Jaime Sifers, G Michael Garteig; RW Alexis D’Aoust; LW Danny Moynihan.

The following players have been invited to camp on a professional tryout:

  • LW Lane Scheidl; RW Peter Schneider; C Tyler Biggs; D Charlie Vasaturo; D Jeremy Beaudry; C Cameron Darcy; G Joel Martin.

The following players have been invited to camp on an amateur tryout:

D Aaron Irving; C Brett McKenzie.

Two Comets are currently banged up. Wacey Hamilton is day to day (lower body) while Cole Cassels is out for 3-4 weeks (undisclosed injury).
