It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the Vancouver Canucks have cut their training camp roster down by 6 heading into the third game. Also, it should not surprise anyone that all of these cuts were junior aged players who are being returned to help their clubs get their CHL seasons started.
The Canucks sent Kole Lind, Jonah Gadjovich, Matt Brassard, Cole Candella, and Michael DiPietro back to Junior after experiencing professional hockey life in both Penticton and Vancouver. Meanwhile, Dylan Plouffe attended Canucks camp as an undrafted free agent. Plouffe was originally to attend Panthers camp, but Hurricane Irma had other plans. Plouffe will return to the Vancouver Giants (WHL).
The Press realease from Jim Benning is here.
In other news, the Canucks are in China practicing on the ice in Shanghai. I guess the arena has some unique challenges... hopefully they can work this out before the first game!
Another noteworthy piece from China: Joe LaBate replaced Ryan White last minute after White suffered an injury against the Los Angeles Kings. Does that mean that he currently has an inside track to a depth roster spot? Or is it merely that he’s a guy who the Canucks feel comfortable in their assessment of him and do not believe that he is going to be fighting for a roster spot? Either way, LaBate getting more time with the Vets, which is valuable in the long term for the big fella. The first of 2 games from China happens tomorrow (September 21).
Meanwhile back in North America, Brock has delivered his 4th blog of the preseason. He talks about his experiences so far on ice, his adventures in LA, and of course his fantasy Football team! Check it out.
The Canucks take to the ice tonight against the Calgary Flames in Cowtown. The roster notes will be released later today... keep your eyes peeled for them!
