Vancouver’s Protection List For This Week’s Expansion Draft

New, comments

No surprises. Unless you were truly a Sbisa fan.

The expansion draft is heading our way in just three short days and Vancouver, along with the rest of the NHL teams, revealed their protected list this morning. Here goes:

Protected Forwards: Dank Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Loui Eriksson, Bo Horvat, Sven Baertschi, Markus Granlund, Brandon Sutter

Protected Defensemen: Alex Edler, Chris Tanev, Erik Gudbranson

Protected Goalie: Jacob Markstrom

The Sully Unprotected Lot: Reid Boucher, Michael Chaput, Joseph Cramarossa, Derek Dorsett, Brendan Gaunce, Alexandre Grenier, Jayson Megna, Borna Rendulic, Anton Rodin, Drew Shore, Jack Skille, Michael Zalewski, Alex Biega, Philip Larsen, Tom Nilsson, Andrey Pedan, Luca Sbisa, Richard Bachman, Ryan Miller

Nothing out of the ordinary with this list. Guds has his new “show me” deal which makes Sbisa the obvious one to expose (he’s been the obvious one for awhile to be fair). There was some chatter about Sutter or Gaunce, but Benning isn’t going to let his clutch foundational player go for free, that’s just batty.

Really if you’re George McPhee there’s not a ton of options in Vancouver’s unprotected list as it is. Gaunce stands out, maybe Dorsett if he needs the sandpaper, Sbisa if he wants to be nice and Megna if he wants to see Vancouver’s twitterati meltdown.

Vegas submits their picks on Wednesday morning and they’ll be revealed at Wednesday’s (snore) Awards show. All of this serves as a lead-in to the NHL Draft which kicks off Friday evening.
