GAME DAY PREVIEW: Canucks @ Columbus- Feb 9/17

New, comments

The dirty hit by Cody McLeod on Sven Baertschi is the perfect metaphor for the Canucks right now: No matter how much you want to believe there's going to be a result you like, you're just going to end up disappointed.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

4:00 PM PT - Nationwide Arena- Columbus, OH

TV: SNP - Radio: TSN 1040

It's to the point know where, much like the Canucks special teams or Willie Desjardins' baffling reluctance to try and change things that obviously aren't working, I am loathe to talk about the cheapshot on Sven Baertschi by Cody McLeod Tuesday night. What's the point, really? They will never get it right. They will never do what's right. And one of the guys who they let slip through their fingers because of the loopholes they've invented is going to end someone's career.

THE OPPOSITION

While the Jackets have cooled off a fair bit since that historic winning streak they went on, they're still winning enough to keep themselves in a good position for the post season: starting at home, where they've been dominant, having lost just 7 of 25. One thing that Columbus would like to get going is their power play. Seems weird to say this about the #1 ranked PP, but they've gone 6 games without a PP goal, and haven't even had a PP in 3 of those games. Might be tough against a team that doesn't take a lot of penalties like the Canucks, but this just seems like one of those slumpbuster stats, doesn't it?

THE CANUCKS

Where to start? Getting outscored 17-6 during this 4 game losing streak? Or how about this stat, very relevant to the one mentioned above?

Reid Boucher is in for his 2nd game with the Canucks tonight, in place of the concussed Baertschi. Michael Chaput is playing in game 100 in his career against his old team, and with a point Bo Horvat can pass the 100 pt milestone in his career. Ryan Miller gets the start tonight for the Canucks. Miller has won his last two meetings in Columbus, but those came in 2014.

GAME DAY BATTLE HYMN

Something to take your mind off all the crazy? How about a brand new IRON REAGAN video? And a claymation one, to boot? Here's Fuck The Neighbors, from the new album 'Crossover Ministry'.
