UTICA COMETS VS TORONTO MARLIES
4 PM EST- RICOH COLISEUM, TORONTO, ON
It started out well, with Nikolay Goldobin sniping one after being left alone in the slot, giving the Comets an early 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived though, as RIch Klune tied it in the 2nd period. Kerby Rychel got the winner early in the 3rd, and the Marlies got an insurance marker from Nikita Soshnikov into the empty net. The Comets were pressing late, and got close when Joe Labate rang the puck off the cross bar twice in the last 7 minutes.
Thatcher Demko stopped 24 in the loss, and Garrett Sparks stopped 19 of 20 for Toronto. We should see Richard Bachman get the start this afternoon for the Comets.
One thing the Comets need to do today is stay out of the box. They gave Toronto 7 power plays, and while they killed 6 of those, that’s not a formula for success.
After today’s game, the Comets are off until Friday, when they roll into Rochester to take on the Americans, and then head to Syracuse for a Saturday night tilt with the Crunch. Their first home game is Nov 1st against Rochester.
