GAME DAY COFFEE- Mar 14/16- Canucks vs Winnipeg- What's Russian For Tank?

New, comments

I ask the question because he's as big as one, and he's joining one, get it? Hmm. Anyway, tonight marks the debut of the highly anticipated Russian Dman Nikita Tryamkin for the Canucks as they take on Winnipeg, and it's also Canucks For Kids Telethon Night.

He's 6'7", or is it 6'8"? While no one can seem to agree on just how tall he is, or the different pronunciations of his last name, he officially becomes a Canuck tonight as Nikita Tryamkin makes his NHL debut at home against the Winnipeg Jets tonight. And not only do we get to see what the Canucks' new hulking behemoth looks like, but we could also see Chris Tanev return tonight. So while I am sure many of you would have preferences as to who you'd put in the press box, it will likely be Yannick Weber and Alex Biega will be the ones watching from upstairs.

And if you're a draftist, this game is a big one. Sure, the Canucks haven't won 3 in a row yet this season, but it is the Jets they're playing against, a team that's never won here in Vancouver (6 straight losses if you count their days as the Atlanta Thrashers, and we do haha). The Jets are currently behind the Canucks in the standings, part of that 3-way of futility at the bottom of the Western Conference. The Jets are in full-on tank mode hoping to cash in and get their own McDavid with Auston Matthews, so we aren't expecting much of a push from this Winnipeg team tonight.

On a more serious and positive note, the annual Canucks For Kids Telethon is tonight, and that's something we can all agree deserves our support. The Canucks have a couple goodies available for you if you make donations to this worthy cause: If you donate $100, they'll send you an exclusive 8x10 photo of Jake Virtanen in his retro jersey, and a $150 or higher donation gets you that photo and the pic of the ceremonial faceoff from the night honoring the West Coast Express line. And every donation gets your name in the draw to win a 2016 Toyota Rav 4. Donate what you can and help out the kids. You can use the website or you can call 1-855-437-3863 (1-85KIDSFUND).

Monday Morning Musings over at Canucks Army

- Congrats to Pucks On Net podcast for their 100th episode, have a listen here

- The NWHL is expanding, and not everyone is happy about that. They're also making heads turn with some questionable PR moves

- From the news that doesn't affect us in any way dept.: Playoff teams will have blue line cameras in their arenas

You know I love these guys, and not just because they continue to make solid, and genre-defining albums, but also because the videos they release compliment the songs so well. Check out 'How The Years Condemn', a song about how the excesses of the past can lead to the failings of today.
