Amidst the nastiness of the game on Saturday night in Toronto it appears that the Canucks wound up with a casualty from the battle. Versatile Winger Jannik Hansen has flown home to Vancouver to have his shoulder further evaluated.
This is not good news for our current top 6, but it does open up an opportunity for one of our younger players to step in and step up!
Considering the team has been carrying 8 defensemen, it only makes sense that they would recall a forward from Utica. That forward is 24 year old veteran Michael Chaput who was signed to a 1 year deal by the team as a UFA this summer.
Chaput currently leads the Utica Comets in scoring (2g-11a-13pts, 11 gp), has good size (6’2”, 204 lbs) and will bring enough pro experience (58 NHL games with Columbus) to contribute when called upon in all situations.
This is not the kind of news that you want to hear while your team is struggling to win hockey games, but it is an opportunity to see what a player on a ‘prove it’ contract can do for the team!
