GAME DAY PREVIEW: Canucks @ Colorado- Nov 26/16

Coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss in Dallas, the Canucks soldier on to Denver to take on the Avalanche. Home game for the Avs and the Canucks on the back end of a back to back? Oh yeah, this one's gonna be so much fun...

Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado Avalanche

TV: CBC - Radio: TSN 1040

It all started off so well, didn't it? The Canucks got a highlight reel goal from Jayson Megna early, and you almost felt like they were really going to turn things around. The lesson here: never trust your feelings. Instead, they coughed up the lead in 2nd and fell into a familiar refrain of getting stoned by Antti Niemi, dropping a 2-1 decision to the stars. I know that some were upset about the blown icing call, but honestly I am so burnt out from getting upset about this team getting screwed over on calls. It's been going on for years and I can't even muster the strength to rage, so...

Stats from and

Seems like forever ago, right? And then there was that one year, where they made the playoffs and the pundits were all like "THE AVS ARE BACK!" and the stats community was all "yeah, about that... watch this" and then they tumbled down the mountain like er... an avalanche. Good times...

One thing that's not going to help Colorado tonight is being without Gabriel Landeskog. This will be his 5th game out of the lineup with a lower body injury. They will however have Rene Bourque back in the lineup. They also won't have Semyon Varlamov, and that means Calvin Pickard gets the start tonight for the Avs. And what's the rule when the Canucks play against a backup goalie? The Canucks lose, every time.

Well, let's see. Alex Biega's on his way to Utica for 'conditioning'. Philip Larsen is healthy and that means a Dman has to come out of the lineup. And you know that Willie's gonna make that be Nikita Tryamkin. They're gonna trot out some 'fatigue' story and then we can all go back to being underwhelmed by Larsen again.

Last night was a throwback game for the Canucks, as in throwback to a few weeks ago when no one could score. They're now five points back of a wild card spot, and let's face it: the window of opportunity for them to make the post season is closing fast. If they can't put together something that resembles a winning streak, they are done, and then we can debate whether or not that's the best thing for the team.

A real interesting tune for you today, one that was put together in a very non-traditional manner. Metaspherical is a project featuring some big names, most notably Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament, Death, Dethklok, Strapping Young Lad, Zimmers Hole and a ton more) and Kelly Shaefer (Atheist). They recorded separately, in different locations over a number of years. This first track also features a solo from King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRoque.
