When the Las Vegas Knights were Golden, and Brent Burns got paid...

NHL: Dallas Stars at Vancouver Canucks Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Golden Knights. Get used to the name, it's going to be the main topic of conversation from the second the horn goes in the final second of the Stanley Cup Final, right through the following 12 months as Bill Foley, George McPhee and co navigate the expansion draft, entry draft, free agency, training camp, and the first season in the franchise's history. No matter your current affiliation, it's going to be fun to see it all unfold.

Let's take a look at reaction to the unveiling, as well as other news from around the league:

  • Golden Knights has a nice ring to it. Here's everything you need to know about the naming process. [NHL]
  • This stuff is all sexy:
  • Mark Recchi was reported as a stakeholder in the franchise. Due to his role as a development coach with the Penguins, he's given up that stake. TURNS OUT YOU'RE NOT A DOCTOR OF ECONOMICS, EH? [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]
  • Who can the Golden Knights select at the Expansion Draft? None of these 66 guys, who all have NMC clauses / long-term injuries to protect them. For us, it's Hank, Dank and Lank. [The Score]

  • Brent Burns signed an extension with the Sharks, unsurprisingly. 8 years, $8m AAV. Good deal, although he'll be 39 when that ends. [Sportsnet]
  • That's the market value for an elite scoring D. What about a potential 60pt 1C/2C? A look at why the Canucks should be signing Bo Horvat long-term. [Canucks Army]
  • Auston Matthews hasn't scored a goal in 13 games:
  • Sean Couturier is out 4-6 weeks. Shame, because I wanted to trade Edler for him. Maybe next year. [CSN Philly]
  • So if the players didn't earn any money playing in the World Cup of Hockey, who the hell did? We all know the answer....BOOOOOOOOOOO! [Puck Daddy]
  • Finally, I want to say this again. The NHL, and Bettman, are going to get badly done in over this concussion lawsuit. More evidence is there for the taking, apparently. [TSN]

Question of the day: With Burns off the market, who becomes your D of choice in free agency - Kevin Shattenkirk, Karl Alzner or A.N.Other?
