When the Nucks thrashed the Flames, and asset management was trending on Twitter in Vancouver. Presumably.

Hands up, who enjoyed that? A thrashing of the Flames, pre-season or no, always goes down well in Vancouver. Two goals from Loui Eriksson is hopefully just a taste of what we have to look forward to! So let's take a look back at an enjoyable result, as well as what else is happening around the league:

----------

CANUCKS DESTROY FLAMES 4-0

- IMac's game review. I agree that Jake Virtanen is doing everything he can to stay with the team - I just can't see it being enough. He needs more ice time. [Province]

- It wasn't just Andrey Pedan who was waived yesterday: Jayson Megna, Michael Chaput and Mike Zalewski were also put on waivers, as well as the likes of Clayton Stoner, Scott Mayfield and Magnus Hellberg. Pedan surely clears. Mayfield is the much more attractive waiver claim. [USA Today]

- A look at Loui Eriksson's first game, as well as how he is settling in with the team. I'm calling 30 goals this season. And another season full of Sedinery. [NHL]

- EA Sports used NHL 17 to predict the coming season. The Predators win the Cup, McDavid wins all the trophies, both the Oilers and Leafs make the playoffs, and the Canucks finish dead last with just 63pts. And they say NHL 17 is the most realistic hockey simulation to date...[EA Sports]

- NHL.com has put together a piece on the next batch of numbers to be retired, following the Lightning's announcement that Martin St Louis will have his number retired this season. No surprises here - both Daniel and Henrik feature on this list, and are as absolutely nailed on as Shane Doan is. I expect the cheapest tickets for the jersey retirement game will fetch over $2k on the resale market. [NHL]

ELSEWHERE IN THE NHL

- Olli Juolevi is back in juniors, Matthew Tkachuk makes the Flames roster. FIRE GMJB!!!! OMGZZZZZ!!!! [Calgary Herald]

- Auston Matthews was embarrassed by the Leafs' performance last night. Get used to it, kid:

- Yakupov to the Blackhawks? The kid must be desperate to see that come off:

- Andrew Shaw played his first game after his pointless suspension last night. Two goals later, has he learned his lesson? Nope. And there's no link here, I just wanted to moan about the Department of Player Safety and its shocking lack of consideration for player safety.

- Nick Bjugstad is going to miss the next 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. Apparently, he was going to have Jared McCann on his wing. Fire GMJB etc...[Sun Sentinel]

- The Kris '$5m man' Russell sweepstakes are down to four teams. I'm calling Servette, Jokerit, Basingstoke Bisons and Lokomotiv. Surely there are no NHL teams dumb enough to sign this guy. [TSN]

- Raffi Torres didn't make the cut in Carolina. I also saw Steve Bernier was cut by the Islanders. [USA Today]

Question of the day: How many goals will Loui Eriksson score this season?
