Carolina comes to town to play the second game of a six-game season opening road trip.

Before we get to the Gamethread, we bring you this update from Edmonton:

The Carolina Hurricanes opened the season Thursday with a 5-4 OTL in Winnipeg. The Canucks are coming off last night's supremely strange season-opening 2-1 shootout win against Calgary. While Rotoworld said last night Ryan Miller would not be credited with a shutout, Yahoo Sports has, in fact, credited him with one.

Carolina is a team I find intriguing. They have a young, talented D and seek to play a structured game that limits shots on goal. It might not be this year they arrive, but Ron Francis appears to be building something. Also, their broadcast crew of John Forslund and Tripp Tracy is one of the best in the league. If you have NHL.TV and can tear yourself away from John and John for a period, you might be glad you did.
