Alright folks, here's the situation: Lord Bennington is in a bit of a cap crunch and we need to help him find some resolution to the situation. What kind of crazy ideas are we going to come up with?
Let's assume that the salary cap will stay put at $69 million just for argument's sake. We currently have 17 players under contract with $3,205,167 in cap space to be used to fill out the remainder of the 23 man roster. One more little wrinkle to cap management, the league minimum as of the start of the season is $575k... Which means that we can't even afford to fill our roster out with players making the min.
The Current Roster
Obviously something has to give here. There's way too much money tied up in our main roster, what ideas do you have to fix this? Oh, and don't forget that most of the players in our core have no-move clauses or limited no-trades... That means that splitting the twins up and dealing them to Buffalo and Edmonton for the #1 & #2 picks in this year's draft is pretty much impossible!
In addition to this, we can't forget that we are eating $800k of Luongo's contract until the year 3465.
Unrestricted Free Agents
Is there anyone on this list that we need to resign? What's it gonna cost?
Restricted Free Agents
Here's a decent guess-timate on the Qualifying offers for the RFA's based on their salaries as posted on the many Capgeek wannabes (RIP Matthew Wuest) that it took to get all of the salary details for all of these players.
|Brandon De Fazio||LW||$660,000|
|Henrik Tommernes||D||Left Team|
Who are we keeping from this list? What do their contracts look like?
Which of our prospects have a shot at making the team this fall? Keep in mind that Jake Virtanen is in the same situation as Bo Horvat was this year: Either make the NHL or go back to the WHL. That means that he will not be a member of the Utica Comets next year no matter how much you want him to play in the AHL!!!!!!
If you really want to geek out to solve this dilemma, have at it; Wanna just propose a Bieksa deal, do it; Got questions about the draft, bring it on!
This post is all about fulfilling your wildest rosterbation fantasies!
