Comets Win Game 7 To Advance To Semi-Finals

New, comments

Everyone is talking about Mike Babcock becoming the new coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. But something more important happened today....the Utica Comets beat the Barons 1-0 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semis tonight!

Jacob Markstrom had a 35 save shutout performance and Alexandre Grenier scored the winner with 12:49 left in regulation (assists to Tim Ehrhardt and Alex Biega). The shot totals ended up being 40-35 in favor of Utica. 40-35. Yea.

Boxscore:

-Jake Virtanen played his 2nd game of the playoffs.

-Alexandre Grenier continued his impressive playoff play with his second game winner of the series. Grenier, who was the Canucks' 3rd round pick in 2011 is a huge forward (6'5" and 200+ pounds) leads the Comets with 4 goals and 10 points in the playoffs so far. He also leads the team with a +5 plus/minus rating, barely ahead of Alex Biega and Alex Friesen.

The Comets will start the semi-finals on home ice against the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit) on Sunday.
