The Utica Comets fell 2-1 in overtime last night to the Canucks former affiliate -- the Chicago Wolves -- at the the All-State Arena on Wednesday night, but there was a silver lining for Canucks fans.

Newly-acquired Sven Baertschi (9-21-30) continued his hot-streak by assisting on Alexandre Grenier's (12-19-31) goal to give Baertschi his 6th point in 5 games dawning the blue and green. The game remained scoreless until 5:25 into the 3rd period when Cal O'Reilly (7-32-42) dumped the puck into the Wolves zone and Baertschi layed a solid body check on the Chicago defenseman that allowed the puck to ring around the boards to an alert Grenier. Grenier promptly threw the puck on net from the right side of the boards catching Wolves' goaltender Matt Climie off guard.

Baertschi has now tallied 5 points (1-4-5) in his first 5 games dawning the blue and green colours; Baertschi has been on the ice for six of the seven Comets goals they've scored since he was acquired from Calgary. Dating back to his final two games with the Adirondack Flames, Baertschi is currently riding a six-game point point streak in which he's registered 8 points (1-7-8). The former first round draft pick has 13 points (3-10-13) in his previous 12 AHL games.

The Comets were significantly outplayed in the first the first 40 minutes of play getting out-shot 23-12, but turned on the pressure with 13 shots in the 3rd period.

Wolves' LW and Chicagoan Terry Broadhurst tied the game with 4:46 left in the final frame of regulation when he gobbled up a redirected shot from Joel Edmundson to beat Comets goaltender Joacim Erikkson low blocker side, which subsequently sent the game into overtime.

The Comets had two glorious chances to win it in overtime: Alex Grenier retrieved the puck behind Chicago's net and fed Baertschi out in-front, but was denied by a game-saving stop by Climie; Baertschi couldn't knock home the rebound as he just missed the open net with Climie sprawled out in desperation mode. The Comets then had a 3-on-2 rush as Will Acton fed Sven Baertschi, who then passed it to a trailing Alex Biega, but Biega couldn't pound in the one-timer pass from the play-making winger Baertschi.

The Wolves then flew back up the ice in numbers of their own with Brendan Bell sending a cross-crease saucer pass to Shane Harper, which Harper converted on for his 26th goal of the season. The Wolves scored on each of their final two shots of the game.

The Wolves outshot the Comets 33-27 with Comets goaltender Joacim Eriksson making 31 saves in defeat. Eriksson has posted a 3-3-1 record 2.67 GAA and a .902 SV% ever since taking over the starting role since Jacob Markstrom was called up to the Canucks.

Nicklas Jensen returned to the Comets lineup after being scratched on Sunday versus the Toronto Marlies and posted 0 shots on goal and finished with a -1 rating.

Hunter Shinkaruk was a healthy scratch in the game. The Canucks 2013 24th overall pick is having somewhat of a tough time adjusting to professional hockey as he's picked up just 18 points (7-11-18) in 58 games with a -8 rating.

The Comets will look for redemption when then the two teams square of again at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night at 8 PM EST.
