Dan Murphy just reported on Twitter that Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa will be out of action indefinitely with multiple fractures to his hand. It will require surgery.
Kevin Bieksa out indefinitely with a broken hand. Multiple fractures. Requires surgery. #Canucks— Dan Murphy (@sportsnetmurph) January 22, 2015
The injury occurred last night late in the game against the Lightning after Bieksa was struck in the hand from a Victor Hedman slap shot.
Joffrey Lupul missed a month with a broken hand back in November but this is worse. Connor McDavid was out longer after breaking his hand in a fight.
In 45 games this season, Juice has 3 goals, 9 points, is a -4, and 21:16 averaged time on ice. He's 3rd on the team with hits and blocked shots (74 and 75). He also leads the team with 49 giveaways. Given the way most have seen him play, it feels more like 149 giveaways. Just not a real good season for Juice this year.
This opens up a spot for a right -handed shot guy like Frankie Corrado to stick with the team. Can't say I mind that one bit. The Canucks will miss the sandpaper element that Bieksa brings though.
Look at Corrado though, what a beauty. Coach Willie wants guys to go to the net and Frankie gets it done:
Jim Benning is singing Corrado's praises:
"....Frankie looks like he's ready to be a full-time NHL defenceman."
"Frankie has gotten a lot stronger. He's winning one-on-one battles now. He plays with his head up, looks confident and makes a good first pass."
