Well, the match-ups have been determined and the schedule has been set: the Vancouver Canucks will host the San Jose Sharks for Game 1 Wednesday evening in Vancouver. As per the team site, the schedule looks like this:
(3) Vancouver Canucks vs (6) San Jose Sharks
Wednesday, May 1 7:30 p.m. San Jose at Vancouver, Rogers Arena
Friday, May 3 7:00 p.m. San Jose at Vancouver, Rogers Arena
Sunday, May 5 7:00 p.m. Vancouver at San Jose, H.P. Pavilion
Tuesday, May 7 7:00 p.m. Vancouver at San Jose, H.P. Pavilion
Thursday, May 9 7:00 p.m. San Jose at Vancouver, Rogers Arena
Saturday, May 11 TBD Vancouver at San Jose, H.P. Pavilion
Monday, May 13 TBD San Jose at Vancouver, Rogers Arena
There's a new wrinkle this year, though: for the first time in what feels like forever, the Canucks won't be on CBC for round one. Instead, they'll be on TSN and likely covered by Chris Cuthbert and Ray Ferraro, the best play-by-play tandem on network television.
Some overly-sensitive west coasters are sure to see this as a snub, but it doesn't take a lot of brain power to figure out the reasoning behind it: the CBC has to cover the Leafs, and they have to cover an all-Canadian match-up in the Senators vs. the Canadiens.
Personally, I'm looking forward to a new refreshing new angle on Canucks playoff coverage. The CBC is heralded for its playoff coverage, but not everyone out west has been thrilled with how the Canucks have been covered on the network in the past, particularly in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals against Boston.
