Rival territory: The Cannon
It's amazing that with all the injuries lately, and having key players missing, that the Canucks managed to fight back into a tie with Minnesota for the division lead within the last few games. After the win in Colorado the other night, Vancouver held onto that 3rd seed for a night with a 4-win streak. Unfortunately, Minnesota increased their own winning streak to 6 games last night, so they're back in the top seed for 24 hours.
The Canucks are back home tonight, and try to steal that division lead again. The opponent is that pesky team that is surprising everyone this season. No, it's not Colorado or Edmonton or Calgary, like everyone expected: it's Columbus. Before their 5-2 loss to Nashville the other night, the Blue Jackets had gone since February 24th without a regulation loss. That's 8 wins and 4 OT/SO losses in 12 games. Although they currently hold 11th in the West right now, that infamous point glut means they're only 2 points shy of 8th.
Bring on the fight. Coconuts go!
Tonight's gamethread title comes from a classic song by George Thorogood & The Destroyers. I didn't manage to really fit the theme into my little ramble, but I don't care.
