Alexander Edler got a 5-minute charging major for this play. From what I am seeing, he really didn't make much of an effort to avoid the contact. He basically treated Mike Smith like he was a skater and put his whole shoulder into him. Now, the people and announcers saying that was a head shot need their f***ing heads examined.
Smith had every right to play the puck behind his net like that.
However, I "like" how Smith embellishes a possible headshot by swinging his head back like that. And the Academy Award goes to........
UPDATE: Edler now faces a disciplinary hearing from the NHL for the hit. He has a clean record as far as I know. Expect a fine. The phone hearing will be at 3 PM PST today.
