Cory Schneider told The Province today:

"When you’ve got 20 games left is kind of equivalent to the stretch run in a regular season. It’s not like in years past where we’ve comfortably had a lead in our division. We’re in a dogfight, and it seems like every game coming up is against a team that’s within a few points of us either way. So we have to get this mentality of scratching and clawing for every game and I think last night was a good start."

Let's hope he's right. The win against St. Louis was a blast to watch and it was good to see the boys bag 3. But you can still see the underlying problems with the team...the 2 big ones: the power play and the team defence.

The power play had its moments last game but mostly looked abysmal again. Phoenix isn't easy to score on with a man advantage.

The team D also had several good stints and several bad ones. This current D squad reminds me of the Jovo-Sopel days. Lots of flash and dash there, but god damn, the opposing teams' quality chances against are too good and too frequent. It makes me miss the simplicity and stability of Salo and Rome. The only way the Canucks didn't really suck on defence was when they had the puck in the Blues' zone for the huge majority of the second period. But that kind of zone possession isn't maintained for an entire game, and these guys need to tighten up in their own zone as a 5-man unit.

The Canucks need to get on a roll. The Coyotes are beatable: losers of 4 straight and have only scored 2 goals in their last 4 games. Sure, this game is bound to be boring but I give no shits about style points. Just get it done, Canucks.
