KNOW YOUR ENEMY
The Preds gave the Canucks grief from time to time but not last season, where the Canucks beat them 3 times out of 3. That's not to say the Preds are doomed on Tuesday night. There's just something about those guys that give me the willies. They play so tight, and get scoring from multiple sources. Take a look. These guys gotta start winning more often, as they are 5 points out of a playoff spot and don't want to be sinking any further.
The Preds lost in a shootout to the Flyers on Saturday night and 3-0 to the Oilers last Thursday, both games on home ice. Prior to those losses they had won 5 of their previous 6. They had lost 4 in a right prior to THAT. So, really up and down in Nashville.
PROJECTED PREDS ROSTER
Wilson - Fisher - Hornqvist
Bourque - Legwand - Stalberg
Spaling - Cullen - Smith
Nystrom - Gaustad - Hendricks
Josi - Jones
Piskula - Ekholm
Injuries: Pekka Rinne (hip), Shea Weber (eye / face), Kevin Klein (lower body), Filip Forsberg (upper body)
Whatever happened to the Kostitsyn brothers? Aahaha.
I SEE NAMES THAT DO NOT COMPUTE
That explains a bit why I look at the Preds' roster and wonder who they heck these guys are.
Seth Jones? A 19 year-old defenceman they picked in the first round in 2013.
Mattias Ekholm? A 23 year-old defenceman they picked in the 5th round in 2009. He has only played in 22 NHL games so far.
Victor Bartley: A 25 year-old defenceman who has only played in 45 NHL games.
Marek Mazanec? A 22 year-old goaltender the Preds picked in the 6th round in 2012. Will likely start against the Canucks.
Carter Hutton? A 27 year-old goalie who has only played 11 NHL games. 1 with the Blackhawks last season and 10 with the Preds this season.
It IS amazing how well the Preds draft defencemen and goaltenders. Just amazes the hell out of me. So this is a funky fresh Preds team. In fact, with both Klein and Weber out, the Preds, it appears, will ice a defensive corps that has played a combined 311 NHL games. Kevin Bieksa has played 490 games. But before you write off the young Preddies, maybe read this.
WHAT A SHEA(M)
What happened to our fave Pred, Shea Weber?
Tough Canadian kid! See how quickly he got up and skated off? You gotta be from BC to be tough like that!
HOWEVER, he is our enemy. And you almost gotta "hate" him because he's such a pain in the ass, right Detroit?
Another great Predators clip:
The Canucks have not won 2 consecutive games since October 28. So excuse me if I'm not overly optimistic right now.
The Canucks really need to string together some wins. They have occupied 9th spot in the West for quite some time now, however are now only ONE point away from the Coyotes in 8th, but the Dogs have 3 games in hand). The Kings look to go back up 5 points on Vancouver with a win over the Blues tonight.
-Will Zack Kassian draw back in after being a healthy scratch against the Hurricanes? Most likely. Zack Dalpe did register an assist last game in Kassian's spot, but Kass remains Tortorella's "project" and needs ice time to get his complete game together. Torts said something about Kassian needing to keep his feet moving at all times and if you watch him closely that is a huge problem with him: drifting.
HE SAID IT
Torts on Alexander Edler's up and down season:
"You know what his problem is? He wants more from himself."
"I think he binds himself up. If there’s one thing that really endears me to him, he cares at a level that a lot of players don’t care at. I think, sometimes, maybe he shouldn’t care as much and just release himself.
"There’s one guy who just needs to allow his instincts and his talent to take over. And that’s what we’re trying to do. We’re going to play him, and we’re going to keep playing him until he feels good because he’s that important to the team."
