Most call the Flames a walk in the park and bag of suck, but watch out for these guys. GM Jay Feaster (with Brian Burke at the helm as well) is building a big and mean team that is gonna bruise you whether they win or lose. I'm not saying they are making the playoffs, I'm just saying they are going to be a pain in the ass.
However, the biggest changes in Calgary since the trade deadline of last season are the losses of Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff. Those 2 players were the absolute heart and soul of the team. But the Flames are 1-0-1 to start the season and really don't give a f---- what people think.
13 of 19 Flames forwards and defencemen have at least a point in the team's first 2 games. 7 of them have 2 or more points.
Joey MacDonald and Karri Ramo are now splitting time in goal and both have played somewhat well to start, given the amount of shots they faced.
As for the Canucks, they play their asses off in a 6-2 drubbing of the Oilers on Saturday night, then immediately head to Calgary for a game Sunday night. That is going to be a major in conditioning, and Ryan Kesler alluded to the Canucks needing more of it post game on Saturday night. Can they put out a similar effort again against Calgary? If they do, the Flames get beaten. If they don't...well....who knows. Does Eddie Lack get the start for this one? I have no idea...yet. Nobody has talked about his capabilities yet. He needs to prove himself as Roberto Luongo's backup. I know he's good...but his rebound control in preseason was less than stellar. Watch for that if he starts this one and hope he has remedied it.
Call me crazy, but I am not impressed with David Booth yet. Sure, it may take some time and the homie is looking to fit in somewhere in this lineup. But he looks lost. Hell, Mike Santorelli and Brad Richardson look more at home than Booth does. It's premature, but I am losing hope in this bear-baiting Jesus freak. Too far? Too bad!
SCORE-PREDICTING WIZARDS UPDATE
Only 1 person has a point through the Canucks' first 2 games and that would be:
He called Hansen to score the winner vs the Coilers.
WE ARE AAAALLLLL CANUCKS
No, just no. I like the attitude of the following intro video, but it screams heavy metal, not...whatever the hell that pop shit is:
