Mr. Everything is going to miss a couple of weeks with a foot injury from....wait for it....blocking a shot in the Canucks' season opener against San Jose! Cue the anger and finger-pointing at coach John Tortorella because long have many foreseen this doom given the style he wants his new team to play.
Torts would have none of it today, except to say:
"I know you’re probably going to ask about 15 questions about shot blocking."
"Alex Burrows made the right play. If he’s doesn’t make that play, he’d probably never kill a 5-on-3 here again. So don’t turn it into that. It was the right play to be made. Injuries happen in a lot of different ways. We’ll continue to try to play defence — not just shot block."
Which is good, because, you know, if enough players go down the kids will get more of a chance, if you are a glass half full kinda person. As for tonight's game against the Oilers, the Canucks are not calling up anyone from Utica. They have 7 defencemen in Van, so expect a guy a like Bieksa to jump to forward. Or maybe a surprise from Tortorella? Yannick Weber? See below.
Burrows is victim #2 from blocking shots. Jordan Schroeder suffered the same fate in preseason action.
FROM THE BOWELS OF TWITTER
Educated guess that YannickWeber will dress as 7th dman vs Oilers. Said Weber: "I have played a little forward before in Montreal." #canucks
