Morning Buzz: Trade Deadline Open Thread

Will this guy be wearing a different jersey in the next few hours?
Will this guy be wearing a different jersey in the next few hours?

Instead of my usual espresso shot of Canucks and NHL links, today's post is all about the trade deadline. It's all the rage these days. Whether you're flipping between TSN, Sportsnet, and The Score, or cruising the internet at work (don't worry, even your boss is doing it), check in here for the latest deals and join the discussion in the comments!

The coverage will probably be as long as the Oscars and just as much of a letdown. If things get boring, maybe we can debate how many NHL regulation-size pucks it would take to reconstruct Billy Crystal's face? That's a lot of rubber!

Trade Deadline News & Notes

The Canucks will likely look to acquire a sandpapery forward that can play on any line from 2 – 4 and an extra right side defenseman. [Vancouver Sun]

If you feel like you've missed some of the action, TSN's trade tracker is quite handy.

Paul at Kukla's Korner has done us all a solid and posted some of the best sources to follow on Twitter for the trade deadline. [Kukla's Korner]

Some trade musings from Ed Willes at The Province.

Pierre LeBrun with some thoughts on who could be moving and who will be staying put. [ESPN]

Bruce Arthur talks about the pressure on many teams — maybe most of all the Toronto Maple Leafs — to get something done at the deadline. [National Post]

Evgeni Nabokov likely won't re-sign with the Isles before noon today, so depending on how Garth Snow thinks the negotiations are going, he could become trade bait. [PHT]

The Columbus Blue Jackets may not move Rick Nash today if they can't get the return they're looking for. They're in no rush to move their franchise player, as anxious as Nash himself probably is to play in the playoffs this season. [Sportsnet]

Rather than updating this thread with every minor deal, let's post them in the comments and keep the discussion flowing there.
