Open Thread: December 14 And Beyond: Name Your Top 5 Fave Cartoons

OK, so my fave all-time cartoon growing up was obviously Transformers Generation 1. In those days we had a TV with 2 channels: CBC and BCTV. At 4:00 pm (I believe), Monday - Friday, one hour after school ended, my sisters, brother and I would tune in to watch one of the best cartoon creations ever. Robots that turned into cars, jets, dinosaurs, GUNS, cassette players, space stations and more. Unbelievable.

I collected the toys and have none of them anymore. I do still have the comics (issues 1 to 30-something) and the first 2 seasons on DVD. As cheesy as the dialogues are, I still enjoy them.

One thing that remains constant about my personality: I cheer for the bad guys. So many kids fapped over Optimus Prime. Not me. It was all about Megatron. He had a fusion cannon mounted on his arm and could transform into a deadly Walther P38. Yea, the weapon in the movie that killed Brawn, Prowl, Ratchet and Ironhide in about a 20 second span in one of the most traumatic experiences of my young life:

What the heck!

One of the coolest things I remember about watching the show was the arrival of Devastator, which took the show to a new level:

How cool was Soundwave with that voice and the cassettes that he ejected that turned into Ravage, Rumble, Laserbeak, and more? Loved Predaking. Shockwave was cool and was one of my fave toys. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Autobots too, especially the Dinobots, Omega Supreme, Skyfire, Blaster, Brawn, Ironhide, Defensor. Too many to list.

I am always loyal to Generation 1. After Megatron was recreated into Galvatron in the movie I stopped watching. I wonder if CBC stopped showing it after that. I cannot remember.

Anyway, I think I have geeked out enough about that. What are my top 5 cartoons from the days of my youth? I actually have to do a little bit of studying. Here goes:

1. Transformers

2. G.I. Joe

3. Disney's Chip n' Dale, Donald Duck, Goofy, etc

4. Ren And Stimpy

5. The Real Ghostbusters / Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters

Special mentions: The Smurfs, Inspector Gadget, Garfield, Ewoks, The Raccoons.

The awesome Road Runner / Bugs Bunny etc cartoons were not on channel 5 from what I recall. I enjoy those now. Poor Wile. At least Family Guy got it right:

Let's see YOUR faves!

Have a great weekend!
