It's been a while since I have posted an open thread at the top of the page, but with no hockey to talk about....**** it! I had a good day indoors with my son today. I plugged my laptop into our tv and played albums from YouTube. Blasts from the past like:
Run DMC: Raising Hell
Soundgarden Live At Lollapalooza (2010). Their new album kicks ass by the way.
Beastie Boys: Paul's Boutique (Easily in my top 5 for fave albums)
Alanis Morissette: Jagged Little Pill
and....a superb album called "Oyster" by a a Bermudan beauty named Heather Nova. I loved angry/deep albums by female singers in the 1990's. Those were good times. But what is with some of these female poets? They make the pissed off and / or raw early albums and then get all pop and crap soon after. Nova, Jewel, Tori Amos, all fall into that category. Love their early stuff, don't like their newer stuff. It's like the get married have kids and then lose their angry edge. I guess that's only natural.
Anyway, Heather Nova has a haunting and unique voice. She never really got the recognition that I think she deserved early on. Here are a few of my fave songs from her Oyster album. Check them out:
My fave Nova tune is called "Island" Brutally honest. Love it:
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
