Last we saw the Avalanche, they were having a disgusting end to the 2010 2011 season, having a 4-11-1 record through March and April. They made personnel changes over the summer, having players like Craig Anderson and John-Michael Liles leaving, and bringing in new players like Semyon Varlamov and ..... wait, what? They grabbed ex-Canuck Shane O`Brien?!?!?
Our old friend SOB has had an interesting NHL career. Drafted in 2003 by the Ducks, he spent less than a year with them before being traded to the Lightning. Lasting a couple seasons in Tampa, he then got traded to Vancouver. It was with the Canucks that he got thrust into the spotlight of the Canadian market. It's hard to say whether or not this team was a great match for him. As we all saw, there was both the good and the bad when he was here.
He did eventually get traded to the Predators last year, and he appeared to fit in well there. Now he's found his way to Denver, where it appears he fits in even better. Before Hejduk got the captaincy there, many Colorado fans were even contemplating the idea of giving SOB the "C", based on what they had seen so far this season. Seriously, imagine that: Colorado Avalanche captain Shane O`Brien.....
At this rate, maybe in our dreams. Coconuts go.
