Saturday Night Hockey Open Thread

The blog is quiet today, and no one has posted anything yet, so I might as well keep you entertained.  There are 13 hockey games in the NHL today, 2 of which have already ended, so here's some info on each one.

  • Done: Ducks - Rangers in Stockholm.  Brad Richards tied it up with a couple minutes left in regulation, but then Bobby Ryan had the shootout winner for a 2-1 final score.
  • Done: Sabres - Kings in Berlin.  Amidst the German cheers for Christian Ehrhoff and Thomas Vanek, rookie Luke Adam scored 2 goals as Buffalo won by a score of 4-2.
  • 4:00 pm PDTLightning vs Boston.  After being embarassed in their home opener, the Bruins will be fighting off the vengeance-seeking Tampa Bay team.  Rematch of 3rd-round series.
  • 4:00Maple Leafs vs Senators.  Can James Reimer continue the shutout streak?  Will Toronto make it back to the playoffs?  Viewable in Canada on CBC.
  • 4:00Flyers vs Devils.  The Devils would like a much better season, and open at home with new captain Zach Parise.  Good idea to keep an eye on this game, as we play the Flyers on Wednesday.
  • 4:00Hurricanes vs Capitals.  Washington opens at home, opting to put Michal Neuvirth in net instead of Tomas Vokoun.  Interesting move, Boudreau.
  • 5:00 Panthers vs Islanders.  Race for the playoffs or lottery picks?
  • 5:00 Predators vs Blues.  So begins a divisional rivalry, where playoff contention is the prize.
  • 5:00 Blue Jackets vs Wild.  Both these teams made significant changes over the summer, so it will be interesting to see what happens to them.  We visit Columbus on Monday.
  • 5:30 Stars vs Blackhawks.  The 2nd of 2 straight games between these two teams.
  • 6:00 Red Wings vs Avalanche.  The Avalanche will be honouring Peter Forsberg pre-game.  We visit Detroit on Thursday.
  • 7:00 Penguins vs Flames.  Scott Oake tweets that Marc-Andre Fleury and Scott Hannan will be the After Hours guests following the game.  In case you're interested.  Viewable in Canada on CBC.
  • 7:30 Coyotes vs San Jose.  Both teams play Game 1 of the season.  Division rivalry resumes.
