Vancouver's schedule doesn't let up all that much. They will still play 4 games over the next 7 nights before the All Star break. At least they will sleep in their own beds for all 4 of them. Thank Garth Butcher for the break, because they will start February with 4 games in 7 nights as well. Perhaps coming with fatigue is their new-found lack of penalty killing ability. They have allowed 4 power play goals against in their last 2 games. 3 came against Colorado. This will have to be remedied fast because as you can see above, the Sharks do the majority of their scoring with the man advantage. It also means they will have to take less penalties, right Raffi Torres? 5 minor penalties against last game, including Henrik's boo-boo in OT,which led to the Avalanche scoring the winning goal.
-Looking forward to seeing what more Sergei Shirokov can do!
-The teams are deadlocked at 3 wins and 3 losses in their last 6 head-to-head.
-Yeah it's comical that the 2 clubs have basically swapped 3rd line centers, with ours being the obvious upgrade.
LINKS
-Kyle Wellwood will center San Jose's 3rd line, flanked by Ben Eager and Benn Ferriero. (Mercury News.com) I look forward to seeing Welly again. In a sense I hope he makes an immediate impact. Can't help but pull for the little guy.
-"That was something I fixed and now I've been in great shape," Wellwood told the San Jose Mercury News. "I've been under 180 pounds, so it's kind of a running joke — you still get fat jokes when you're one of the lightest people in hockey. You just laugh and shake your head."
