I haven't been mentioning why I've picked various RATM lyrics for the GDT's (because they're awesome, duh), but this one is uniquely appropriate. Of course you could argue this is more of a 24/7 rule to remember for hockey players (play your best, leave it all out on the ice, yadda yadda) but it reached another level when our pit boss decided to rest the team yesterday and then named names:
"You take Roberto Luongo, you take Sami Salo, Alex Edler, Ryan Kesler, [Alex] Burrows, Hank and Danny -you take those guys and put your trust in them," Vigneault said. "They're ready for this moment. This is their time and they're going to get it done for us." [emphasis mine]
Not sure I agree with resting them, but AV's bang on by saying you play the cards you're dealt. Forget conspiracies and blown calls - hell forget Selke nods, Art Ross celebrations and Olympic gold - and look around the league: Crosby, Zetterberg, Backstrum and Rinne are just a small sample of the players who are getting "it done." Our guys aren't and - if they can't tonight and through the remainder of this series - they deserve to be golfing with the rest of the losers.
The situation isn't dire yet, but it's sure close. If they can get the PK back and pressure Quick with some better shots, there's no reason they can't win and set up a best of three. If they relent, stop skating and/or start the sin bin parade, they'll be heading back to Vancouver 60 minutes away from the shit hitting the fan.
Are the Canucks a paper tiger or a sleeping dragon?
No shelter here guys. Let's see it.
