The playoffs opened last night with three of the four lower seeds shocking the big guys by taking the series lead. Most relevant to Vancouver is what happened in San Jose. Ignore the Sharks post season woes: Colorado flatly outworked the best team in the West and the Sharks had no answer. Was the winning goal ugly? Sure, but that's what happens when you're playing in deep April. And here comes Los Angeles who - like Colorado - could very well come into our house and outwork a well rested and perhaps complacent Canucks team (Oh the kittens that will be punted).
Just proves that old adage: don't take anything for granted.
The Canucks have played from behind too often this year and I can't imagine they'll go very far this spring if that trend persists. Similarly we don't want to lose the opener and hand the Princely Purple Boys the momentum either. So much is at stake every period and every shift. Forget needing sixteen wins, just start with one. Let's see if all those career years, franchise records and Olympic gold mean anything once the rubber hits the road.
