One Canuck is having a decent off season so far. First he got his extension and, now, the Holy Bernier gets to return "home" a triumphant hero...assuming that is you consider the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL home for Steveo:
Steve Bernier is coming back to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft this Saturday in the familiar confines of the Moncton Coliseum. Attending the draft is something the now Vancouver Canucks winger knows well. Selected first overall by the Moncton Wildcats in 2001 QMJHL draft, he had four outstanding seasons. His major junior career spanned 305 regular season and playoff games scoring 165 goals and added 185 assists. He led the Wildcats in the league championship series in 2004 won by the Gatineau Olympiques.
See what being the unsung hero of the Vancouver Canucks gets you? Perhaps he'll teach them young'ins how to miss open nets? No I'm kidding. Congratulations all around but, please, don't let it interfere with your summer training (September ain't that far away).
