JP Dumont was awarded a 1-year, $2.9 million today through arbitration. Dumont had 20 goals and 20 assists in 50 games last season, and 14 points in 18 playoff games. This was the highest points per game percentage in a season that Dumont has had in his career.

The question is, will Buffalo accept this deal? Will they accept the deal and then trade Dumont to get some value out of him? The Sabres are suprisingly approaching the cap now. With Dumont included, the Sabres will be at about $38.26 million. Goaltender Ryan Miller and defenceman Dimitri Kalinin have not been signed yet. You have to think that Miller will get up to $3.5 million and Kalinin could get about $1.5 mill. This will put the Sabres just under the cap.

So if you are Sabres' GM Darcy Regier, what do you do? Do you flog Dumont or Briere to give yourself some breathing room under the cap, or do you leave the team intact because Dumont and Briere were part of your top line last season and you don't want to tamper with team chemistry? Tough one....
