The buzz continues to escalate throughout the Fraser Valley real estate community that Francesco Aquilini has his sights on buying the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre and the land it occupies. By extension, Aquilini would cut a deal with the Calgary Flames that would result in the Vancouver Canucks’ No. 1 farm team, the Chicago Wolves, switched to Abbotsford.
— That from Greg Douglas of the Vancouver Sun.
Now this makes a lot of sense and I hope it gets done. I know it's one thing for the people of Abbotsford to get to watch an AHL team, but it's the Calgary Flames' affiliate. Screw the Flames! The very low attendance at the games suggest the same. Could you imagine the excitement generated if people in the Fraser Valley could watch the Canucks'
affiliate. It would be gold. Imagine being able to watch Eddie Lack, Kevin Connauton or Brendan Gaunce in action / developing. Imagine the Canucks calling up a player and all he has to do is drive for half an hour to get to Rogers Arena. Big difference than Chicago.
Oh wait, apparently it's not that easy
