Thanks to the Jets poundsacking the Stars 7-2 on Sunday night, the Canucks, with their greasy win over the Panthers, are only 3 points out of a playoff spot. Oh, you bastards really like to toy with our emotions don't you? The Stars do have 3 games in hand though, and the Coyotes (in 9th) have 2 games in hand.
The last time these 2 teams met was on New Year's Day. Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula each had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 Lightning win. Steven Stamkos was not playing and Martin St. Louis was held off the scoresheet. So were the Sedins. This time around St. Louis is no longer a Bolt, but Stamkos has returned from injury. He's taking a bit of time getting back onto the scoresheet since returning from that freaking injury, scoring only 1 goal and 1 assist in his first 5 games back.
A really sad statistical trend for the Canucks is their PK. Long this season did it reign on top of the NHL, but it has now sunk all the way to 12th overall. There ya go, Stamkos. Here's your opening. You just don't have Marty to feed you the puck anymore, but we can give you some time and room.
-I think the Canucks are in real tough against these guys. More-so than their last 2 opponents even. And there is this: The Canucks have not won 2 games in a row since January 18 and 21 against the Oilers and Flames. Yea.
Bigger news out of Tampa is the play of goaltender Ben Bishop. He just broke Nicolai Khabibulin's wins in a season record (31) last game vs a Devils...a shutout too yet. The Lightning team and coaches were very happy with the 60-minute effort they played against New Jersey.
-Ryan Callahan, who the Bolts got back in the St. Louis trade, has 1 goal and 2 assists in his first 5 games.
-Iron Man Sami Salo has no power play goals for the Lightning this season, but does have 4 power play assists.
-The Tampa Bay organization is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of this happening:
Holy hell, did you see that hit by Ference on St. Louis? Wow! Look at all those bandwagon fans, hey? Damn those thunder sticks. Anyway, that was the year Torts won the Cup.
YOU MADE MY SHITLIST
-Daniel Sedin has begun skating! He may not be done for the season. Prior to his injury, he had no points in 12 games. He had 1 assist in his last 17 games. He had not scored a goal in 23 games.
-David Booth has not scored a goal in30 games. He has only 4 assists in that span.
-Zac Dalpe gets sweet tweet for ice time so I am not going to pick on him for only having 1 goal and no assists in his last 15 games.
-Alex Edler: Got an assist against the Panthers, but failed miserably as a defenceman. No love from me.
-Brad Richardson had 1 assist in 20 games prior to getting injured. When is he going to return? I thought he was close.
Finally, somebody not named Chris Higgins is stepping it up.
-Alex Burrows has 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 games!
Look at Burr...good to see him happy for the first time in a long time:
So glad he's gotten the monkeys off his back.
-Nicklas Jensen has 2 goals in his last 2 games, and 3 points in his last 4 games. Atta boy, Jensen!
The title of this preview post has been brought to you by Pantera:
Speaking of lightning:
Yea, I've almost been struck before. Thunder crashed before the bolt hit. Scared the hell out of me.
