Is there any sort or reset in mentality with this Canucks team after a 2-week Olympic Break? I know the injuries had piled up and they are still not playing with a full deck yet. But that is no excuse for some of the top paid players to not be putting up any points for this long. Maybe 10 hours of watching videos with Tortorella ,Sullivan and Gulutzan will help.
Alexandre Burrows will play, and he will finally be without that damned jaw protector. Henrik Sedin has also been cleared to play after a rib injury. The big question is will Ryan Kesler play? No one is talking about his MRI results on his hand....yet. But this would be a loss the Canucks cannot afford to have as they sit in 10th in the West and need to get on a roll and bust out of this 7-game losing skid.
Here is a nice graphic about the "Decline Of The Canucks" by the Province's Ginger Sedlarova. Thanks for that, Ginger! Maybe we should frame that!
How about some positive stuff?
KNOW YOUR ENEMY
-Alex Steen and TJ Oshie lead the Blues in scoring with 46 points each, but Steen has played 11 less games than Oshie. That tells you how good Steen is.
-From the Blues' website:
With seven Blues playing in the maximum six games in Sochi, coach Ken Hitchcock may be forced to give some of his stars a break during a three-game road trip.
"It's going to be really interesting to see all of these guys coming back that played in some of the important games over there, how quickly they can mentally turn that off and get refocused for some real important hockey," said Blues associate coach Brad Shaw, who has been running practice while Hitchcock served as an assistant coach for Canada. "That'll be a real tough mental challenge for those guys and we'll have to maybe expect some play that is a little bit haywire at times. Hopefully we'll have enough guys pointed in the right direction."
I hope they are jet-lagged to hell. We need the points more than they do. Sure, they are only 3 points out of first in the West but I. Don't. Care. It's all about MY needs. Thanks for providing superb defence for Team Canada, Bouwmeester and Pieterangelo, now politely fuck off!
-The Blues are 6-1-2 in their last 9. They are 3-2-0 in their last 5 road games.
-Derek Roy had 1 goal and 4 assists in his 5 games leading into the Olympic Break. He has no points in the Blues' 2 losses against the Canucks this season.
-TJ Oshie's shootout performance against Russia is worth another look:
