Wanna watch USA play Slovakia? That game starts at 4:30 AM PST on TSN. Full Men's Hockey viewing schedule can be seen here.
I will be putting up game threads for every Canadian Men's Hockey game in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, as Canada marches on to defend it's gold medal title from 2010 in Vancouver. First up is Norway, who has apparently beaten the Canadians in the past. But let's face it, Canada playing Norway, this is expected:
Anything less than that would be uncivilized and will likely get tongues wagging, right? We are proud of our hockey in this beautiful nation of ours.
PROJECTED LINES / ROSTERS
Kunitz - Crosby - Carter
Nash - Toews - Sharp
Getzlaf - Marleau - Perry
Tavares - Bergeron - Benn
Weber - Keith
Bouwmeester - Pieterangelo
Vlasic - Doughty
In Goal: Carey Price. Luongo starts against Austria on Friday. Ooo, let the goalie battle begin! Oh how's it going Mike Smith?
That's a deadly team on paper, make no mistake. But they have to play as a team to win it all.
The Norwegian roster can be seen here. A lot of names that I am unfamiliar with there, except Thoresen, Zuccarello and Tollefsen. From Sean Fitz-Gerald at Canada.com:
Around the time he was 10 years old, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen had built an impressive collection of hockey cards. He figured he completed the entire set of available National Hockey League cards in 1994, and he would have watched those players live on television, except: "In Norway, we didn’t get the channel that had NHL games on."
"We know hockey is small," he said with a smile. "In Norway, it’s skiing, alpine skiing, skating. Pretty much everything is in front of us."
And on Thursday, Canada will be in front of them, as the most expensive team playing at the Sochi Olympics opens its schedule against Tollefsen and his Norwegian teammates, a group at the opposite of the salary spectrum. The score, according to a report published in The Wall Street Journal, reads: Canada, US$157 million, Norway, US$1.2 million.
Norway has a population of about five million, but only has 44 indoor hockey arenas and fewer than 7,000 registered hockey players. Mats Zuccarello, the 26-year-old winger with the New York Rangers, is the only NHL player on the team’s roster in Sochi.
That's a sweet article. Check it out.
The last time these teams met was in Vancouver:
How about a pump-up video from Samir Javer?
Excellent work, Samir! His YouTube channel can be found here. Lots of great clips there.
