Stop! Shredder Time! (Canucks Injury Updates)

Rich Lam

Jordan Schroeder seems fully healed from surgery on his (twice) broken ankle. He broke it originally blocking a shot in the preseason, returned to action and broke it again in a weird collision against the Penguins on October 19. Three screws were inserted in the procedure to put Shredder back together again.

He will not make his return in the Canucks' game against Nashville tomorrow. Instead he is being sent "down" to Utica, who conveniently play back to back games in Abbotsford on Friday and Saturday. After that he may take a spot between David Booth and Zack Kassian, which is where he practiced today.

Schroeder has no points and 4 shots in the 3 games he has played this season.

The timing of Schroeder's return is a blessing, as another Canucks' center, Mike Santorelli has a shoulder injury. While the Canucks' interim head coach Mike Sullivan said:

"I don't know exactly what his (Santorelli's) status is specifically but I would suggest he is a little bit more than day-to-day at this point,"

the bottom line with any shoulder injuries that aren't minor are that he is not coming back any time soon. Even The Province's Jason Botchford tweeted recently that Santorelli will not be back for a long time. So Schroeder gets his chance now. Santorelli only had 1 goal and no assists in the 9 games leading up to his injury. He had really cooled off, as had the team, who lost 8 of those 9 games.

What can Schroeder do again?

The 23-year-old is pretty skilled. Just needs to get on a roll and keep playing. He scored 3 goals and 9 points in 31 games last season in mostly a bottom six role.

Ryan Stanton (ankle as well) participated in a full practice with the team today. He is oh so close to returning. That would leave Yannick Weber as the odd man out, barring any further injuries. Weber would be back to watching from the press box, as who knows how Andrew Alberts is doing with his concussion.

A big hat tip to Elliot Papp for providing the updates today.
