There was an interesting article in the NW Sports Blog that suggested trading Kevin Bieksa and maybe Jordan Schroeder - the logic being that Bieksa is over paid and 32 and Schroeder may not fit in to the grand plan now that there are at least 3 centers on the farm that could overtake him - Gaunce, Horvat and Lain.
I have to say I agree with this logic. Further, I think GMMG should consider packing other players like Higgins, Hansen and/or Booth (who is probably untradeable b/c of his contract) as well. Simply put, all 3 players can be easily replaced with hungrier, cheaper and younger players that will give the Canucks some cap flexibility. Hustle players that can score 15-20 goals and hit are not hard to find. Guys like Ferriero, Jensen, Gaunce, Lain, Weise ... can fill in for these guys and do a good job, particularly in a more defensive system like Tortorella's.
Higgins $2.5 million is way more than he could get on the open market and trading him with an asset like Bieksa or Schroeder will give the Canucks some room and maybe let them acquire a top-flight D-man that can make it through teh season without getting hurt.
