Lots of trade action today, and it could easily continue into the night. As I type this, there is now only 19.75 hours until the trade deadline. Here's a quick summary of the game on tonight, Canucks moves today, and some of the other moves today. Kent is planning to have an official trade deadline thread going up early tomorrow morning.
Chris Higgins has signed a 4-year extension with the Canucks, worth $10M. There is no word on whether any similar deal is following for Mason Raymond. Also, as we posted about earlier, Vancouver acquired Derek Roy from the Stars earlier, in exchange for Kevin Connauton and a 2nd rounder. Gilman said following these moves that we are still expecting 1 or 2 moves.
Around the league:
-The Ryane Clowe saga concluded this afternoon, with the Sharks sending him to the Rangers for 3 2nd-round picks. Before the final decision, reports were that the talks had narrowed down to Vancouver and NY. In the view of many Canucks fan, perhaps we should be happy to be the bridesmaid in this situation.
-The Maple Leafs have been talking to Miikka Kiprusoff all day, as well as with the Flames, although no definitive progress has been reported. Word has it that Toronto might also check in again with Vancouver as well, since the Roy acquisition could change our needs for a Roberto Luongo exchange.
Those were the big stories today, although there were also some smaller moves and signings as well.
Among the games tonight is the Penguins and Sabres at 4:30pm PDT, being shown on TSN2. Jarome Iginla will be seen in a Penguins jersey, although without Sidney Crosby. Also on tap tonight is the Senators vs Bruins, Jets vs Islanders, Capitals vs Hurricanes, Lightning vs Panthers, Predators vs Avalanche, and Kings vs Coyotes.
