Booth Wrecks Ankle (Animals Everywhere Rejoice), Kassian's Back Still Nagging Him

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It's almost a tragic comedy. The Canucks have proven repeatedly that their identity for this season is inconsistency. Hard-working efforts here, tired-looking, disinterested efforts there.....and now the injury bug is really hitting them. David Booth left Rogers Arena on crutches and will be getting an MRI done. He will likely miss 4-6 weeks if the MRI reveals a fracture. Zack Kassian's back was bothering him during the lockout while he was playing for the Chicago Wolves. He thought it would go away as he played more games. Nope.He is still listed as day-to-day.

Sadly enough, these are the worst two Canucks to get injured. No, not on an impact level. Both guys have struggled mightily of late and needed to get on the scoresheet. Booth has 1 goal in 12 games this season (the empty-netter). He only has 2 goals in his last 28 games (including the L.A. series). I know some players need time to get adjusted and find the right linemates, etc. But Booth can't do that because he keeps getting injured. It's frustrating to watch. He's a $4.25 million bust.

Is it just me, or do back injuries and power forwards go hand-in-hand? Zack Kassian started the season so well with 5 goals and 1 assist in his first 8 games of the season. He has 2 assists and is a -8 since (18 games). I can easily find it within myself to be patient with the 22 year-old. But back injuries really concern me (see: Hodgson and Edler).

So now the big question is: who are the Canucks going to call up from Chicago? Ben Kuzma from The Province is suggesting Niklas Jensen or Jordan Schroeder (link). He states that Schroeder has played wing before. Jensen is a natural right winger. How's Jensen doing?

What the hell. Give him a shot. At this point, some fresh faces on the Canucks squad might be a good thing. I mean, ANYTHING to zap some life into this lifeless bunch (you know who the guilty ones are).
