The Canucks embark on another road trip..this one a 4-game road trip, starting in the desert, then San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim. These are all quality teams in the Pacific Division and all will provide Vancouver with uber-physicality opposition. Should be fun!

Canucks - Coyotes games tend to be the extreme opposite of Canucks - Leafs games. We got "spoiled" on Saturday night with that masterpiece, but when the Canucks play the Dogs it tends to be a slower, more-methodical defensive style employed led by the Coyotes, of course. That is their style primarily. They sit back and wait for you to make a mistake and then pounce.

But also, expect some physicality in this one too. Phoenix loves to throw the hits. So, will we see another improved game from Zack Kassian then? He thrives in games like this.

The Coyotes are on a 4-game winning streak. They have beaten the Sharks, Kings, Predators and Oilers. They have scored 16 goals and given up 11. Where has that hellacious defence gone? Answer: who cares? As long as they give up 5 to the Canucks we are all good! As you can see in the table above, Phoenix is changing. They are 4th in the NHL in goals per game average and 25th in goals against per game average. Maybe this game won't be so boring after all. MAYBE.

Another noticeable stat is the Coyotes' home record (6-0-1). Let's hope the Canucks can hand them their first regulation home loss. You gotta love Vancouver's 6-2-1 road record. The majority of that domination came on the 7-game road that seemingly just ended, where they achieved a 5-1-1 record.

Boedker - Ribeiro - Doan

Korpikoski - Hanzal - Vrbata

Klinkhammer - Vermette - Moss

Jordan Szwarz - Andy Miele - Kyle Chipchura

Ekman-Larsson - Michalek

Morris - Yandle

Stone - Rundblad

And in goal (likely):

Try that move again, punkass!

Expect a lot of Luongo vs Smith Olympic talk in this one. And the next one. And the one after that. The Canucks play Phoenix 5 times this season with the re-alignment. YAY???

The Coyotes have 10 players with 7 or more points. They have 7 players with 10 or more points. 3 of those 7 players are defencemen. Check out their team stats here to see what I'm talking about.

As a comparison, the Canucks have 8 players with 7 or more points and 4 players with 10 or more points (Sedins, Kesler and Santorelli. The Canucks got much more balanced scoring against the Leafs and will have to continue that going forward.

The Coyotes thought Brown was heading to the Rangers with Alain Vigneault but when that did not happen they made sure to scoop him up. Brown is having a positive impact on the Coyotes' power play and recently received praise from Dave Tippett. What does Brown have the Dogs doing?

The Coyotes have been shooting the puck more on power plays this season and getting good results.

"What we try to do is set up all of our puck movement and player movement to set up a shot," Brown said. "We’re trying to move with a purpose in the offensive zone and on our entries. Hopefully people can notice that we are shooting the puck, and when we do we have people going in the right direction and we have a player in screen position and we have people converging on the net. It’s important that we all know that a shot is coming and we can all start heading in that direction so if the first shot doesn’t go in we’re in position for rebounds. It’s not too complicated but that’s basically the way you have to score goals on a power play."

More on Newell at the Coyotes' website.

The Canucks' power play bagged one against the Leafs but remains anemic. There are still plenty of signs of it clicking.

When the Coyotes beat the Sharks on Saturday night, Dave Tippett became the winningest coach in Coyotes / Jets history with a piddly 166 games won behind the bench in 309 games. The Coyotes / Jets have hard time maintaining much success over the years, but Tippett and his system has worked best.  As a comparison, Alain Vigneault had 313 wins in 540 games. That's a 53.7% win percentage for Tippett and a 58% win percentage for AV. I don't know why I toss in the comparative stats there....oh right because I dislike the Coyotes.

-David Booth has been sent to Utica for a conditioning stint. As pointed out in the article, these stints can last up to 2 weeks. I really doubt that happens here. Booth, who suffered a groin injury, is going to play on the Canucks' bottom 6 soon enough, and then hopefully work his way up the charts. (Via the Vancouver Sun)

-The Attempted Assassination Of Henrik Sedin By The Coward Joffrey Lupul. I love those Legion Of Blog guys. I also love that Lupul missed Hank and elbowed his own guy. Right outta the WWE playbook! (L.O.B.)

"It was just a great feeling being back on the ice again, and hearing the fans cheering me. I’ll never forget this night."

Nor will we, Pavel.

I hate to give Mike Smith any kudos, but hey, he deserves it here:
