Canucks Whoop Senators 5-2 And Continue Feast On The East

Atta boy, Booth! - Jana Chytilova/Freestyle Photo

The Canucks continue to feast on the East, and now hold a 10-2-2 record against Eastern Conference teams this season. They could not score more than 2 goals in a game in 7 of their last 8 meetings, but hey, get them on the road against a struggling Sens team, a Sens team that struggles to play defence, which most Western teams don't, and halleluiah the goals started flowing in the Nation's Capital tonight!

Daniel Sedin scored his 300th career goal and added an assist. Brother Henrik had 2 assists. But more importantly, David Booth and Jason Garrison, 2 Canucks probably under the most scrutiny, each scored a goal and an assist. Garrison's goal was on the power play. We like that, don't we? It was also the game-winning goal.

It wasn't so pretty early on. Clarke MacArthur scored over 8 minutes into the first period, and John Tortorella took exception to Jannik Hansen's play on that one:

It's was as if Torts was saying "you were back here, and the guy you were covering was up here and it's bullshit! You shat the bed, and I will plaster your ass to this bench for it!" And that he did. Hansen only played 8:08 tonight. Dale Weise seemed to get more minutes as a result and made the very best of it, scoring a dirty goal to make it 4-1 at 9:22 of the second period. The Canucks had long missed that nail-in-the-coffin goal. Torts couldn't pat Weise on the back enough times when he sat on the bench after that goal.

How about I shut up and show you the highlights:

Ah yes, it was good to see Mike Santorelli score too. Santorelli had not scored a goal for 9 games and only had 1 goal in his last 21 games. He also added an assist tonight. See how much more wide open it was out there for the Canuck forwards? You will rarely see LA or San Jose play like that. So, hey, let's savor these moments!

The Canucks dubbed Weise the player of the game:

He wasn't. David Booth was. Booth was everywhere tonight and yes, he and his mates had trouble clearing the zone on the second Sens goal, but damn, Davey Boy could have had 4 points tonight because he was making so many things happen in the offensive zone. Hell, the defensive zone at times too. Good job, Booth. Haters gonna hate, but I gotta give him props for his last 2 games played.

Is Alexandre Burrows snakebit or WHAT? At least he does all the other things right. Burr's time will come.

More props to Roberto Luongo on another solid game! From Silver Sevens' recap:

Sens Killer: Roberto Luongo

Luongo was strong in net for the Canucks and faced a lot of rubber. He faced 39 shots and made 37 saves. Took two hard shots off his neck courtesy of Kyle Turris but stayed in the game and didn't seem bothered by the action. With a lesser performance from Luongo, this could have been a very different game.

My 3 Stars:

1. Booth

2. Daniel

3. Henrik

4. The Canucks fans at the game tonight. Wow, you peeps were louder in general than the idjits at the Library, I mean Rogers Arena!

BOXSCORE

The shots were 39-28 in favor of the Sens. So...uh..the tables turned in this one for Vancouver.
