I went on a bit of a tirade after the Canucks' loss to the Blackhawks, pissing and moaning about the Canucks' inability to score and lack of depth up front. Now it could come into play again against the Kings, who are one of the stingiest teams defensively in the NHL. Let's face it, I don't want to be right here. I want the team to win and kick ass. But man oh man if the Sedins or Kesler don't score the Canucks don't often win.
KNOW YOUR ENEMY
In the month of November, the Kings are 6-1-3. They have scored 25 goals in those 10 games, and allowed a piddly 13 goals against. Take notes, Canucks, because if you are not going to score goals, you are going to have to play defence like these guys do and win games THIS WAY.
The Kings play big, too, as you can see by their hit total in the table above. They play the Canucks tough, especially the Twins. The Kings hold a 3-2 edge over the Canucks in the last 5 meetings.
1. Anze Kopitar: 6-16-22
2. Justin Williams: 9-9-18
3. Mike Richards: 5-13-18
4. Drew Doughty: 4-8-12
5. Slava Voynov: 3-7-10
PROJECTED KINGS ROSTER
Brown - Kopitar - Williams
King - Richards - Toffoli
Carcillo - Stoll - Frattin
Pearson - Vey - Clifford
Muzzin - Doughty
Regehr - Voynov
Mitchell - Martinez
Ben Scrivens in goal. The guy they got from the Leafs.
HE SAID IT
"When they're not creating offence, they're kind of slack on the defensive end."
-Drew Doughty talking about the Sedins. (Thank you, Province, and f*** you, Doughty.)
-Zack Kassian is the newest doghouse victim for coach Tortorella. After a lousy shift or 2 against the Hawks, Torts benched Kassian for the rest of the game. Kass only played just over 4 minutes total.
-"I'd rather have 37 shots than 15 and keep believing you're doing the right thing." -Alexandre Burrows.
-"Good teams win one-goal games and right now we're not winning them. Is it frustrating? Yeah. Nobody likes to lose, especially when you have games like this (vs Chicago). There are opportunities and pucks are bouncing over our sticks. It's bad luck, but we've got to fucking bear down." -Ryan Kesler. Clearly frustrated.
- Kings are 7-0 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Kings are 17-5 in their last 22 Monday games.
- Kings are 8-18 in their last 26 road games.
- Kings are 2-5 in their last 7 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Canucks are 4-0 in their last 4 Monday games.
- Canucks are 20-6 in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
- Canucks are 3-15 in their last 18 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Really?
- Canucks are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Pacific.
- Those stats courtesy of Covers.com, who also have the Canucks winning this one at a 59% consensus.
