Stats are based on the 2011-12 regular season.
Oh hi 2012-13 NHL Regular Season!
Last season the Canucks kicked some ass. The Ducks sucked ass. But one thing that is almost certain is that when Anaheim and Vancouver do battle, it's always entertaining. Something good or BAD happens, right Dan Hamhuis?
Yea, fuck you, Ryan Getzlaf!
Usually, a lot of goals are scored when these teams go head to head. And/Or there's a crazy marathon shootout:
PROJECTED STARTING LINEUPS
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Ebbett - Kassian
Higgins - Lapierre - Hansen
Volpatti - Malhotra - Weise
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Garrison - Edler
Ballard - Tanev
Kyle Palmieri - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Bobby Ryan - Nick Bonino - Teemu Selanne
Andrew Cogliano - Saku Koivu - Daniel Winnik
Matt Belesky - Devante Smith-Pelly - Brad Staubitz
Francois Beauchemin - Toni Lydman
NOTES / OPINION
Hard to believe how lousy the Ducks were last season. Hard to believe Selanne led the team with 66 points. But the Ducks didn't bolster their offense in the long long offseason. No, they added size to the defence in Sheldon Souray and Bryan Allen. They want more offense from the talented forward corps that are already in place. I expect they will get it. Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf are in contract years. You know they are going to step it up. Other notable UFA's this coming summer are Koivu and Lydman. I assume this is Selanne's final year.
The Canucks are loaded on defence but have potential issues up front. They ended the final months of their 2011-12 season by having trouble scoring. The current group is missing Ryan Kesler and David Booth to injury. That leaves the new-look line 2 as you can see above. Not exactly assuring. I expect a more defensive strategy from Alain Vigneault to start the season.
PREDICTION
OK, so let's do the score predicting contest again! I don't have a sidebar to put the leaderboard on but I will figure something out.
The rules: If you pick the right score and correct winning team you get 2 points. You don't get a point for predicting one correct and not the other. That ought to encourage more NUMBSKULLERY. Also, you will get a point if you predict the game-winning goal scorer, even if you are wrong about the score and winning team.
The winners from the past 2 regular seasons are:
2012: HockeyFanInColorado: 32
2011: Semi_Colon: 24
I don't have a good feeling about the opener. I'll start the guessing off with a 5-2 Ducks win, with Getzlaf scoring the winner.
LET'S GET IT ON!
GO CANUCKS GO!
