aka The Henrik Sedin Appreciation thread
Okay guys, so the other thread got too big (good job!) and we need a new one. Sean has asked/goaded/taunted me into making a new thread so here I am. This is my first fanpost so don't laugh if the formatting is sad and awkward.
Sean asked me to answer a few questions to start off, which I think would be cool if others answered as well. I know this information about some of you, but not all, so please chime in!
When did you become a Canucks fan?
Like most of you who were raised in Canada, I was exposed to hockey from childhood. But I really started to follow the team after the 2002 Winter Olympics. At my highschool every game was played on giant screens in the gymnasium. Teachers let their students out early for class if they could, or tried to bundle watching hockey into the class time. As a result, hundreds of kids watched each game together. So I started following the Canucks right after we won Gold. My timing was pretty good too because this was the height of the West Coast Express days.
Your favorite Canucks moment
I'm going to cop out and say 2. The first was Linden's last game in 2008. Very poignant and bittersweet game to watch. Everybody knew he was retiring. He was cheered every time he touched the puck, and he did a farewell/victory lap after the game ended. The circumstances sucked: the Canucks missed the playoffs that year and the Flames absolutely thumped us that game. But I do remember Iginla getting his team to come back out and all shake Linden's hand. You can check it out here.
The other moment would be Bieksa's goal that sent us to SCF. I have never been more excited as a Canucks fan, or so full of hope. Alas...
Your favourite Canucks player
Henrik Sedin. I cannot say enough good things about the honesty, intelligence, and character of this man. And he's a wizard on the ice to boot. God I love this goal.
I will fight anyone who disagrees. /loads crossbow
Okay, that's enough of my rambling. What is your Canucks story? And..................GO!
