When I think of the Winnipeg Jets the first things that come to my mind (and not in this order) are: white-out, Morris Lukowich, Teemu Selanne, Dale Hawerchuk, Dustin "ass" Byfuglien, Fanner Glass, Kyle Wellwood and of course, Rick Rypien.
The white-out at their home playoff games was fascinating to watch and the place was LOUD. What a crazy bunch of hockey fans. Love it.
Morris Lukowich never leaves my mind for the simple reason that when I used to collect hockey cards I always ended up with Lukowich ones. He had a distinguished look, and he was a heck of a hockey player for a small guy. Apparently he is the cousin of Brad Lukowich.
Teemu Selanne's 76 goals and 132 points in his rookie year with the Jets obviously earned him
the Calder trophy and that goal-scoring feat still blows my mind.
Dale Hawerchuk's best years were with the Jets, and wow, did he rack up the points.
Dustin Byfuglien is a mortal enemy for obvious reasons and I hate his guts. Pure hockey hate.
Tanner Glass has 5 goals and 14 points with the Jets this season, all career highs. I don't miss him though. Sorry Tanner.
I always felt bad for Kyle Wellwood. The jokes tossed at him endlessly, the Canucks coaching staff laughing at him...damn. I loved his skill set. This season he has 14 goals and 39 points in 65 games. He may just have career highs in goals, assists and points when this season is over and it's because the Jets gave him a chance. Hey Jets fans: you see his 2-way game? Yeah, you're welcome. If this game went to a shootout and Woody scored the winner I would actually be happy. Then he should skate by AV and give him the middle finger. And that's all I gotta say about that.
Rick Rypien would have suited up for the Jets in this one and maybe we would have seen a Rypper-Kassian tilt. Kassian would have been beaten to a pulp. I always miss Rypien and hope his family is alright. Rest in peace, Rick. You are never forgotten.
In regards to the Canucks....ah man I give up. At some point the Sedins and Kesler are going to get rolling. At some point, in relation to that, the power play is going to click again. At some point, the team as a whole is going to play a full 60 minutes. In the meantime I am not holding my breath, and here we go again against another team that is fighting for a playoff spot. And like Chris Higgins said on Wednesday:
"The playoffs have started for a number of teams already," Higgins said. "They are battling every night just for the two points in the standings. We have to find that hunger as well. We have to find that hunger to win the conference, be the best team in the Western Conference. It helped last year with the home ice [advantage] through those first three series."
Slap the f***ing C on his chest! The Sedins told the media that they thought they were playing good.
