Ready for some positivity? It comes from a stat below in the "Trends" section: Canucks are 25-5 in their last 30 games playing on 3 or more days rest. Yeah. Hell yeah! Let me elaborate on that stat a bit. This season, when the Canucks have had 3 days or more of rest:
-October 10, 3 days off, went 2-2 in their next 4. But that was October and they start the seasons of shitty. Won their first game after the 3 days off.
-November 10, 3 days off, went 3-2 in their next 5. Won their first game after 3 days off.
-November 20, 3 days off, won 5 games in a row.
-January 21, 3 days off, won 2 in a row before All Star Break.
-January 31, 7 days off from AS Break, went 3-0-1 in their next 4 games. Won the first game after the break.
-Last season? 4-0 after at least 3 days off. Write this stuff down because they will be pointing it out on Sportsnet during the game.
-I would also like to point out that each Sedin is a -4 in their last 8 games. Know what? That's not so bad for guys that are not scoring at all. That means their defensive game is not atrocious. Or the goalies are bailing them out or whatever. F*** CORSI.
I have a good feeling about this one.
OK, now onto
the practice lines on Tuesday, which had Mason Raymond on the top line with the Sedins and Alexandre Burrows on the 3rd line......WHAT???? So how does this play into Alain Vigneault's reward system for players earning more ice time? MayRay is ice cold right now. Does he show the gumption? Yes. But so does Chris Higgins. Strange. Honestly, after watching PK Subban make the Sedins his bitch last game I really want to see a bigger, tougher player wing the Twins. A guy that isn't going to fall down every 2 seconds and takes no shit from anybody. Kassian or Booth or anybody but MayRay. BUT, AV sees something there and I trust his judgment. Or, maybe that lineup doesn't happen at all. We don't know until game time.
My other beef is that Roberto Luongo is the confirmed starter for this one. Yes, his mates shit the bed in front of him against the Habs but I also don't think he doesn't look sharp right now. I would have started Cory Schneider here.
Given the rough and tough play of some of the Coyotes I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron Rome gets to play again.
AV also mixed up the defensive combos in practice Tuesday so....take the line up below with a grain of salt while AV shuffles the deck.
ICE COLD CANUCKS
-The Sedins are ____________________________.
-Dank has 1 assist in his last 8.
-Hank has zero points in his last 8.
-Mason Raymond: 0 points in his last 6 games.
CANUCKS HEATING UP
-Kevin Bieksa: 5 assists in his last 5 games.
-Chris Higgins had 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 3 games. Higgins has one gear: BALLS OUT. Good job, Professor!
-The rest of you get your damned shit together!
PROJECTED ROSTERS
David Booth - KesLORD - Chris Higgins
Jannik Hansen - Sammy Pahlsson -Alexandre Burrows
Zack Kassian - Manny Malhotra - Maxim Lapierre
Alex Edler - Sami Salo
Aaron Rome- Marc-Andre Gragnani
Ray Whitney - Antoine Vermette - Radim Vrbata
Raffi Torres - Daymond Langkow - Shane Doan (A promotion for Torres, hey?)
Lauri Korpikoski - Boyd Gordon - Taylor Pyatt
Mikkel Boedker - Gilbert Brule - Marc-Antoine Pouliot
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Michal Rozsival
Michael Stone - Rostislav Klesla
INJURED
Via TSN: Coyotes are without Kurt Sauer, David Schlemko, Kyle Chipchura but more notably Derek Morris and quite possibly Martin Hanzal. Andrew Ebbett is practicing with the Canucks but isn't taking contact. No main Canucks are getting hurt because well...they are taking it easy, not blocking many shots or making big hits. They aren't getting super cranked by opposing players either.
TRENDS
- Coyotes are 1-5 in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest.
- Coyotes are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Western Conference.
