Preseason Game 6: Canucks At Ducks Preview

With all the cuts that happened, and the injuries as well the Canucks will now ice "quite a few veterans" against the Ducks, according to Alain Vigneault. He will do so for 2 of the final 3 Canucks preseason games. Oh and speaking of injuries: Aaron Rome will miss 4-6 weeks with a broken finger (FUUUUUUUUUUU). Nolan Baumgartner a month with a broken foot. Steve (pass the) Pinizzotto out indefinitely with a shoulder injury. Niklas Jensen will now get some playing time with vet Canucks after wowing the hell out of Vigneault so far. Looking forward to that.
So WHO will the Canucks dress against the Ducks? Not much word on that, except Vigneault confirmed in a press conference today that Roberto Luongo, the Sedins and Dan Hamhuis will play. Perhaps Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa as well, speculates Joey "Not Kristin Reid" Kenward. How about Cody Hodgson on the PP with the Sedins? Will we see it? Maybe Jensen? Maybe a revolving door.

after hearing all the interviews….I think AV played it exactly right. They have had a bunch of high tempo, game like practices, and he has the vets now “foaming at the mouth” to want to play in a game.
Hell, he got his vets to be excited to play in a preseason game, after coming off a Cup loss in Game 7!
I betcha they come out, in the first at least, like a house on fire and really take it to the Ducks.
That, or they totally fuck up the first couple shifts…LOL

honestly
you are the most optimistic guy I have met regarding the Canucks, so I understand where you are coming from. But the guys have been off all season, while Anaheim’s guys have been playing in pre season. A solid outing with expected mistakes will be a good outing. I don’t have high expectations for the preseason, not because we are not that good, but because I think we need to warm up a bit.

I am just giving more weight to all the players words is all.
Bieksa was marveling at how the “coach actually got us excited to play in the preseason”. They are all talking about “wanting to hit someone”…or “playing someone other than teammates”.
Its nothing to do with being “optimistic”, and, to tell the truth, that is a bit bizarre. To each his own. Its funny. I am critical all the time, and yet, its always being positive ( something that I try to do in my daily life, so maybe it has seeped into the fan angst, huh? ;-) that some seem to remember. Meh.
But hgonestly…the point is, they WANT to play in a preseason game. From the interviews ( and I am hardcore enough that I saw them all over the last week!)…its not going to be from lack of will.
As to warming up, I think you are totally discounting the point I made about the practices. Our vets have been playing longer against each other than any other team in the NHL.
Its not like I am really counting wins and losses either, mon frere. Or, even the goals and assists. Just how individuals do. I do think that the next three games will be much more different from the first five of the preseason. The vets just watched a bunch of kids try to impress. There are some that can read a depth chart as easy as the coach.
So, there will be motivation too. Honestly, thats where I was coming from. I do honestly think they will come out like gangbusters. Of course they won’t be perfect.
I guess I just buy into the plan of lesser preseason games for the vets more than some others might! As long as their actions back up their words, anyhow…

Bottom line, as well
Shortly after joining here, I made a pact with myself. I refuse to be one of those “the sky is falling”, LUONGOALZ SUCKS" “Fire AV and trade everyone” fnas. I grew up a Canuck fan. Have been one my entire life, and know too many of those.
So, perhaps that comes across as finding the positive. But I like that. Positive is good right?
