My Response to the Media and Oilers claims of circumvention and poor sports related to the Canuck's lineup at the most recent Oilers-Canucks game. Including Harrison Mooney, who I respect.
Owen Nolan, Steve Begin, Todd Fedoruk, and even Niko Dimitrakos, are trying out for the 4th line positions, and to fill 2nd line spots left vacant by injuries. Kesler and Raymond won't be starting the regular season. There are were gaps created in the off season as well with the departure of Tanner Glass ect and the passing of Rypien. It's not unreasonable to bring in veterans who are willing to put everything on the line for one last shot at glory rather than just hand Hodgson a position on a silver platter because he was a first rounder. The guy might be a stud but he'd better earn a spot and work hard to keep it.
As for defence, the Canucks needed 13 different defencemen last year just to get through the regular season. You can't question a snake bit, team for being afraid of snakes. If they want to build their defensive depth up again and provide some veteran mentors for their AHL team in the process theyre more than allowed to, as a fan i think theyre obligated. The departures of Ehrhoff and Sweatt leave some holes to fill, and noone expected to have to pull Suave from the ECHL last year to fill them mid season.
The same goes for Manny Legace, should, heaven forbid, Cory Schneider be traded, we better have someone in the cupboard that can step into an NHL game, and we better have someone behind him. As things stand with Manny, we not only get that disaster goalie, Lack gets a mentor in the AHL.
If i have the option of creating some competition and make players actually earn their spots, I will take it over just handing them a position because theyre the next player in that position in the system
